Strategic Communications Manager - Security Sector

The BOSS Group is pleased to be supporting a mission driven organization located in McLean, VA in their search for a Strategic Communications Manager in the security sector with National Security experience. This person will develop strategies, messages, and campaigns that connect with target audiences in meaningful and impactful ways. You will be responsible for executive level department communication which will require skills in written and oral messaging strategy to connect diverse stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate will have a background with national security domain expertise, executive Communications and public relations.

Strategic Communications Manager - SECURITY SECTOR Responsibilities:

  • Work as a thinking partner and trusted advisor to provide strategic communications counsel to department officers and directors
  • Work collaboratively and in a consultative manner with officers and directors to co-create and develop strategies, messages, and campaigns that connect with a target audience
  • Engage with others both nationally and locally as well as vertically and horizontally within the organization 
  • Apply a messaging strategy and methodology that is agile and dynamic while maintaining clarity and consistency for improved measurably 
  • Provide support to public affairs duties that could include: Responding to press inquiries, scheduling interviews, developing media strategies
  • Contribute to and evolve existing corporate communications standards to ensure a high level of quality and consistency in communications and deliverables 
  • Lead strategic engagements with partners and stakeholders, prepare presentations, demonstrations and associate promotional plans
Strategic Communications Manager - SECURITY SECTOR Requirements:
  • 15+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public affairs and/or external relations role
  • Deep familiarity with federally funded research and development centers / research organizations
  • Proven experience and understanding of national security domains, with success in leading public affairs and external relations 
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability and desire to work in a team oriented and collaborative environment
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast paced work environment as both a member of a team and individual contributor 
  • Strong consulting skills with demonstrated ability to work with executive management, internal and external stakeholders, while analyzing problems and recommending communications solutions
