The junior web developer (508) provides assistance and advice on information and communication technology (ICT) accessibility policies and serves as a source of expertise concerning section 508 accessibility remediation. The specialist recommends solutions and provides support to ensure compliance with all required government standards. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, highly self-motivated and adaptable to learning and understanding new technologies, able to work both independently and on a team, and have the ability to organize and present information in a clear, concise manner.       

Junior Web Developer (508)  Responsibilities:

  • Keep current with Federal, State, and other accessibility requirements
  • Provide clear technical guidance and assistance to ensure Section 508 compliance and accessibility for all EIT products
  • Develop 508-compliant HTML and multimedia products
  • Analyze and solve complex and difficult accessibility problems
  • Test products as requested using automated tools and produce reports
  • Manual testing using assistive technology (e.g, screen reader) and keyboard functionality
  • Understand accessibility test results and work directly with staff to resolve issues
  • Keep existing accessibility checklists up to date and develop new checklists as necessary

Junior Web Developer (508) Requirements: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree with three to five (3-5) years implementing Section 508 Standards, WCAG 2.0, and related accessibility laws, regulations, as applicable to ICT is required
  • three to five (3-5) years of experience developing 508-compliant multimedia (online training a plus), a front-end development for 508-compliant HTML (responsive HTML a plus) and cross-browser, cross-platform environment (Mac, Windows) is needed      
  • Proficiency developing interactive PDFs (JavaScript programming a plus)
  • Proficiency with Adobe products (Acrobat, Captivate 8 or later, Dreamweaver)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Drupal, JQuery, ARIA, and using an LMS a plus
  • Experience with 508-compliant video a plus.
  • Strong background in hands-on front end development
  • Hands-on experience with CSS (ability to code from scratch)
  • Hands-on experience with HTMl (ability to code from scratch
  • Ability to work on both Windows and Mac systems; they are a Mac shop, but do most of their testing on Windows platforms
  • Familiarity with 508 compliance; willingness to learn more about 508 compliance and can become passionate about it
  • Background in JavaScript (doesn't need to be an expert, but someone who can use it to enhance PDFs)
  • Government contracting experience
  • Background with cross browser testing (testing for both Mac and PC)
  • Screen reader experience (tool used to allow visually impaired people to see software)
