Past work experience can tell more than personality

Similar to how the job market changes monthly, so does the way employers conduct interviews and eventually bring on new hires. As any business owner knows, simply placing adds for art direction jobs or creative direction jobs on a few internet hubs won't generate enough high-quality resumes to make a sound judgement for a position.

When seeking new employees, it's as important to have a plan on how to advertise open positions as it is to have one to help narrow down candidates. If interviews are conducted with structure each time, it is more possible to analyze expectations instead of allowing intuition to take control. Just because someone is a smooth talker does not mean they are the most skilled individual for the available position. Having the ability to create an atmosphere of excitement is a great characteristic, but in a creative department, that is not necessarily needed in order to create a market-changing idea.

Hiring managers would do well to conduct interviews with a variety of behavior-based questions. Every business wants to be a thought leader in their industry, and in order to find someone who can aid in that task, an interviewer needs to issue the right questions. Instead of asking how an individual comes up with a great idea, it could be more beneficial to understand how they initiate the implementation of the idea. Anyone can have an impressive thought, but it's more enticing if they have a profound way of putting the plan into motion. An individual who considers all of the variables, from typography to medium, is one that should be highly considered for an open position.

In order to attract a pool of potential candidates, a business cannot solely rely on individuals coming to them. It could be better for a business manager to single out people they think will be a great fit for a company - even if they are already employed. Targeting them through social media outlets or at professional conferences could be the more successful way to go about this. As long as the method is done tastefully, it's a fair way to pursue the talent that other employers have already discovered.

In fact, the best way to understand if a person will be successful is by analyzing their past experiences. For that reason alone, most employers hesitate on hiring individuals right out of college or with little professional history.
