Companies with remote work policies attract top talent

2011-12-13

Companies are constantly looking for new ways to attract top talent to their creative teams. The developing job market has produced new opportunities for workers educated in social media marketing, advertising and web design to search out ideal work policies in businesses. There is an increasing need for creative workers in more lines of work as advertising and marketing moves more toward technology and the internet.

In order to attract the top talent, companies have to learn to be flexible with their employees so they stick around and feel comfortable with the security of their career choices. Remote work policies began as a trend a few years back, but have rapidly turned into a normal practice in organizations across the world. Sometimes accessing the top talent requires leaving the geographical boundaries companies used to be limited to.

Today, having a remote work policy has become imperative, according to a recent Microsoft study. Out of 4,500 polled workers, 56 percent said their company had a remote work policy. That number has dramatically increased since Microsoft's 2010 study, which indicated that 73 percent of polled small businesses had no telework or remote work policy.

For companies looking to recruit talented individuals, it is important to implement a work policy that allows staff members to work from home on occasion. Allowing creative members to designate certain days in a month where they will perform their duties outside of the office will create a work environment that people want to be a part of.

In the same 2011 Microsoft study, workers stated they'd like to work at least eight days a month remotely. In reality, employers today allow staff members to work from home 3.2 days per month. Increasing the days employees are allowed to remain outside of the office can produce better work, too.

Many workers believe they are more productive at home. Removing the stresses of commuting to and from the office, as well as having the opportunity to tend to personal matters during the day, is an attractive benefit for any worker.

The job market has always been a competitive battlefield. Companies that learn how to mold to developing work trends will see a higher interest from job seekers. When trying to recruit talent to your creative department, entice potential employees with opportunities to work on and complete projects from home.
